We’re having a Highland Christmas here at Sugar Bowl Crafts! The Glen from Lewis and Irene has just arrived in stock and is now online ready to purchase. I’m in love with the rich grey they have used, its got a hint of plumb to it which is just wonderful with the warm reds and lighter tones. I’ll be busy making bundles too, so do let us know if you want a special order before this fabric heads to the Exeter Fairs!
The summer weather hasn’t been the best this year so deciding to have an outdoor stall was a bit of a gamble! But luckily the day dawned bright and sunny and we were able to spread out and enjoy the summer sunshine – even Mel’s little daughter Elli came along to give us a hand!
The fair was held at the Parish Centre in the village of Alverstoke, Gosport – which is my home town – and organised by Michelle, founder of From the Craftbox. It was the first fair here for us and was very well attended, not least by friends and family who always make the effort to support us.
A Day in London
No trip to London is complete without a visit to the famous Liberty store – and it didn’t disappoint! My husband Andrew had been given a voucher to visit Tottenham Hotspur’s football ground, so of course it provided me with the ideal opportunity beforehand to wander along to Regent Street from our hotel in Covent Garden for some retail therapy. Naturally I headed straight to the 3rd floor! The central display was lovely and so were the quilts draped over the banisters. One was by the Shoreditch Sisters Women’s Institute and quite stunning (you never know, Liberty might even display one of our quilts one day…..!)
Finally – our next craft fair will be at Stansted Park, Rowlands Castle on 30th August. Then we’ll be getting ready for our two big quilt shows:-
The Knitting and Stitching show at Westpoint, Exeter 24th – 27th September
Autumn Quilt Festival, Malvern 23rd – 25th October
Enjoy the rest of the summer!
Best wishes from Amanda
We’re excited to show off our first newsletter! Its our first one so we wanted to share a little bit about ourselves what we have been up to and what’s coming over the next few months. It should be an easy way to see fabric lines that are coming soon and share some tips and patterns with you. We’ve met so many of you now, we hope to be sharing some guest posts too, so don’t be shy in coming forward, we would love to hear what you have been up to with our fabrics, or any top tips you would like to share too.
As part of the launch we are thrilled to offer sewing/craft clubs the opportunity to subscribe to this newsletter. For £5 you will receive this newsletter (at least 6 copies) with an additional 5 charm squares per copy – so 30 individual charms in total. All you have to do is email us, or facebook us with your name, email address, home address, and name of sewing/crafting club or guild you belong to. We’ll send out the invoice for the £5 and then you can start to receive your lovely fabric!
We’ve got a couple of dates to be aware of – Alverstoke 8th August and Stanstead House 30th August. Hope to catch up with you all soon x

Beau’s Summer Market
Pagham Village Hall, Pagham Road, Bognor Regis, West Sussex PO21 4NN, United Kingdom (map)
4th July 2015
Join us on Sunday 24th May 2015, 10am – 4pm at Stansted Park http://www.stanstedpark.co.uk/
Stansted Park sits on the Hampshire/Sussex border between Chichester and Portsmouth and is set in beautiful grounds overlooking the coast. It offers a great day out for the family.
On our stall we will be selling quilts, cushions, bunting, fabric light shades, lavender bags, hearts and much, much more – all lovingly handmade by us using our own wide range of fabrics and also the vintage fabric and trims we have scoured the vintage fairs for.
Every month we will run a different promotion to show off our fabrics and give you a chance to try something new! Our first promotion will be on the gorgeous Petal and Plume Collection by Bari J. We love this collection because of its silky texture and gorgeous colours. It’s beautiful as quilting fabric or for garments, just have a look at the lovely ‘Look book’ created by AGF to show its versatility!
Dedicated to a childhood memory of Bari’s grandparents, Petal & Plume centres on a majestic and colourful symbol. Painterly strokes create an otherworldly palette of pale violet, iris blue, and twilight tones. Designs seem to leap out from the darkness to illustrate the loving, and graceful world created around the peacock.
Buy any 5 fat quarters from the Petal and Plume Collection in the Month of May and receive a free half metre of Peacock Waltz – white (while stocks last!)
Just enter your order normally on the website and we will manually add the half metre of Peacock Waltz when packaging and while stocks last! Happy Shopping!
Have you heard of Sarah Moore Vintage yet?
Amanda and I have been following her progress since BBC2′s The Great Interior Design Challenge. She was the winning designer on the show using beautiful vintage products to create a colourful and textured home. [check out her beautiful website and shop here].
Well we are lucky enough that she lives not too far from us and when we heard she was opening her barn to the public for a vintage shopping fest, Amanda and I scooted ourselves down there! And we weren’t disappointed!! Loads of gorgeous fabric stacked high and great vintage finds from plates to books to enamelled jugs. I really should have taken more photos.
Both Amanda and I came away with a few vintage finds that we are already washing and putting to good use as we know the summer markets are just around the corner so we need to get making!
Here’s a sneak peak of what we’ve been up to!
Getting ready for your holidays?
We are! There are two cute new fabrics in that ‘shout’ out travel and journeys.
We couldn’t help but pick up a bolt of this retro caravanning print. It has Volkswagens, old caravans, vintage cars, what’s not to love? Its a great cotton that is perfect for all your craft needs from garments to curtains for your caravan. Get it while supplies last!
The second is a beautiful linen cotton blend in soft greys with a hint of pink/mauve. From the great explorers travelling in their flying machines across the globe. We love this 80/20 blend because its great for all sorts of projects. We love the way it looks on the lampshades and works well with our kits!
Check out our shop and pick up your holiday inspired fabrics today!
All the best
