We are so thrilled to be working again with Jennifer on her launch of this new collection and can’t wait to stock more of her fabrics. Its bold, its vibrant and brings sunshine into our homes! This new line is the first digitally printed range for Free Spirit Fabrics, here’s what Jennifer and her team have to say about it!

We are thrilled with our first digitally printed designed fabric, Judith’s Fancy, and hope you are too! The collection is based on Jennifer’s artwork and named after her childhood neighborhood in St. Croix; an island near and dear to her heart. Jennifer dove head first into painting in the summer of 2015 after taking online classes at CreativeBug with Pam Garrison.
One of Jennifer’s early paintings….

Little did she know, painting would some become a passion, and she started painting every day. First with acrylics and watercolors and now with mainly oil paints. This line features the florals you know and love plus pineapples and the wonderful ladies faces Jennifer has been creating on canvas. Which is your favourite?

Amanda has been busy working on a quilt for Jennifer – keep an eye out on Facebook and Instagram to see her progress. Its so much fun and bringing smiles to our faces.

This is a pattern designed by Amanda Green

Who is Jenni Smith?

Jenni Smith Ltd is a studio based in a historic mill in the centre of Ilkley, West Yorkshire.  Her aim is to share our love of sewing and the endless possibilities of cloth and thread.

Jenni teaches studio classes in dressmaking, quilting and textile art. We are developing a range of to provide all the right tools to complete a project and build the skills and confidence of our lovely customers.

Jenni has been sewing for the last 25 years.  She grew up in a house where her mum and nan stitched upholstery for the caravans and trailer tents designed by her grandfather.  She studied History of Art and Italian at University before working as an Associate Producer in documentaries. In 2006 she spent a year in Toronto where she learned how to quilt and her love of dressmaking grew with the birth of her daughter a few years later.

For the past three years Jenni has been taught by sewing veteran Ann Ladbury.  She has also developed her own series of textile art and has made original pieces for Sex and the City actress Kristin Davis and US artist and illustrator Lisa Congdon.

Jenni’s goal is to share her knowledge and enthusiasm, inspiring a new generation of people  to embrace the handmade revolution

Here’s what Jenni has to say about the Hepworth,

What’s in a name?

As well as sewing, one of my major passions is the History of Art.  I studied the subject for my degree at University, combined with Italian.

Sculptor and artist Barbara Hepworth was born in Yorkshire, where our studio is based. Her work is a constant source of inspiration and I grew up admiring the beautiful contours of her sculpted forms, and use of natural materials.
