Scrap Busting Sew-a-long
Share
We're going to dig into our scraps and make some colourful eclectic quilts this year. We're starting the year with my Scrappy Blooms quilt. It's great for those odd shaped scraps and quick to pull together.
I'm going to release information through my newsletter (sign up on the website home page) with additional videos through my social media, so hopefully you won't miss the steps. It's free to join - just sign up to the newsletter or follow along. The more interactive you are on social media the more fun we tend to have as a community. Tag me to your photos and I'll share to the group. Its amazing to see the colours we come up with.
Our start date is 15th January and information will be released every Thursday for 6 weeks. During this process I will give you the "how to's" but the size, colour, and layout of the finished project is up to you. I really want you to use your scraps - think of this as a jigsaw puzzle where you are using the pieces you already have to figure out what goes where. If you really struggle with a quantity of a particular colour, then I have made scraps packs that are similar to the fabrics I used making the sample. They are available on my website.
Abstract design and going with the flow
This design is abstract. I think it looks loosely like roses. You can make my blooms whatever colour you like. It's not precise, but it is colourful! Choose colours that you love from your scraps.
Tools. My favourite tools for this project is:
• A rotary cutter.
• a small cutting mat that I can place by my sewing machine.
• A small acrylic ruler - I use a 6"square. It helps to be see-through so you can see what the shape will look like before it is cut. But a smaller ruler that you can have next to you and is easy to manoeuvre . Save the big ruler for sizing blocks at the end.
Most importantly, have fun! You're welcome to watch the progress before committing. Hopefully it will inspire you to dust off those scraps and release the colour!
