Scrappy Blooms Sewalong Week 6 - Final Week

Scrappy Blooms Sewalong Week 6 - Final Week

Welcome to the last week of this Scrapbusting sewalong - Scrappy Blooms. Let's talk about borders. You can choose to finish your quilt top in several ways. My favourite finish is a scrappy crumb border. It uses up all the leftovers from the top and adds so many fun details.   It becomes a bit of an eye spy as you notice some fun designs hidden in the band.

To make the border, I continue to make as blocks. The scrappy panel that you make will stretch and bend, so keep it small and no bigger than one of your blocks. I stabilise this by using a solid piece of fabric either side. This is great visually to add some space between the main design of the top while still adding a nice finish. Start with the corners and make the blocks  a good 2 inches bigger than your unfinished block size.  You'll need to cut diagonally and pair with another block cut on the opposite diagonal. When the corner block is finished, join to a straight line block and trim away excess. Once trimmed, this will give you the measurements you need for any adjustments.

If you've enjoyed my sewalong, please do share you makes and tag me. And if you would like to finish your quilt with a little reminder of this sewalong - I do have scrap busting sewalong labels available on my website or by messaging me directly,  which do help fund these sewalongs.

Thank you for joining in and I hope you have fun scrap busting! Mel x
